Why Server Speed Matters
The speed at which your server responds to requests for information and how quickly it takes for web pages to load can have a very significant effect on the overall performance of your website.
Web users are becoming less and less inclined to wait for slow loading websites and webpages and so a slow website may mean that valuable customers become impatient and go elsewhere.
In addition page load times and server speed are also a factor which is used by some search engines to calculate Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising costs. For example Google takes page load times into account when calculating landing page quality and consequently your Quality Score. In general, a high Quality Score means that your keyword will trigger ads in a higher position and at a lower cost-per-click (CPC).
Whilst there are many factors which can influence how quicky a webpage loads (user's choice of browser, connection speed, operating system, age of pc etc.) a webpage will never load quickly if the server it is on cannot deliver it quickly.
Unlike say a user's choice of browser, making sure your server can deliver webpages quickly is also one of the factors that you can directly influence in your cloice of hosting/server provider.
